How come? の意味とは？

“How come?” は 「どうして？」「なんで？」という意味の英語表現です。

“Why?” と同じように物事の理由を尋ねる際に使われますが、いくつかの違いがあります（後述）。

How come? と Why? の違い①：語順

“How come…?” と “Why….?” とでは、その後の語順が違います。

“Why…?” :  通常の疑問文の形をとります。

“How come…?” :  疑問文の形はとらずに How come のあとに S V と続きます。

How come? と Why? の違い②：カジュアルで軽く、フレンドリーな響き

 “How come?” と “Why?” の 基本的な意味は同じです。

強いて違いを説明すると、 “How come?” の方が “Why?” に比べ、カジュアルで、軽く、フレンドリーな響きになります。

こどもが多用する言葉でもあるので、場合によっては こどもっぽく聞こえる場合もあるかもしれません。

逆に言うと “Why?” は、フォーマルで固く、やや冷たい印象で、場合によっては問い詰める響きになります（もちろん言い方にもよりますが）。
