この英語表現の意味、わかりますか？
今日は “long shot” の意味と使い方をエリンに教えてもらったのでまとめますよ！
“Long shot” の意味とは
“long shot” は「望みの薄いこと」「可能性は０ではないけど、あまり期待できないこと」に対して使う表現だね。
字のごとく、遠くにあるターゲットを銃や弓矢なんかで命中させるときを想像するとわかりやすいと思うよ。

If you describe something as a long shot, you mean that it is unlikely to succeed, but is worth trying.
例文で見てみよう！
It might be a long shot with such short notice, but I’ll ask and see if my boss’ll let me have the day off.
（急な話だから望み薄だけど、ダメ元で休み取れるか上司に聞いてみるよ）
It’s a long shot, but I hope he can make the soccer team.
（望みは薄いかもしれいけど、彼がサッカーのチームに入れるといいな）
“make the team” は「チームに選抜される」という意味の表現です。
例えば、” I made the team” で「チームに選抜された」という意味です。
直訳すると「私がチームを作った」。
主体性が前面に出ていて、なんだか文化の違いが見て取れるような、そんな表現ですよね。
