“I’m rusty.” や “She’s gotten rusty.”

rusty
If a skill that you have or your knowledge of something is rusty, it is not as good as it used to be, because you have not used it for a long time.
rusty
You can also describe yourself as rusty: you used to do flips on your skateboard, but you haven’t practiced in a while and now you’re a little rusty.

Man, I lost again. I think I’ve gotten rusty.
I know I’m a bit rusty but I feel like playing the guitar these days.
I feel like my English is getting rusty after I moved back to Japan. I gotta do something to brush it up!

Let’s play cards. The loser gets lunch.
Sure, but go easy on me, okay? I’m a bit rusty.
No way. This is a fight for real. It’s eat or be eaten!
Fine. You’ll be sorry later.

![](https://peta-eri.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/1510970099500-e1511144181580.jpg)
I’ve lost my touch.”
lose your touch
If you lose your touch, you can no longer do something as well as you could before:

![](https://peta-eri.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/1510970099500-e1511144181580.jpg)

![](https://peta-eri.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/11/1510970099500-e1511144181580.jpg)
そういうときは “He/She is getting rusty.” He/She is losing his/her touch.”

He is not scoring a goal this season at all. I guess he is losing his touch.
The cake is a total failure. I must be losing my touch.

Wow. Did you really paint that picture? That’s awesome!
Thanks. This was the first time I painted in over 10 years and I was pretty rusty. But it’s not too bad, I guess.
Yeah. You haven’t lost your touch at all! Once an artist, always an artist, huh?
