毎日当たり前のようにしている家事のような簡単な動作でも、いざ英語で言おうとすると意外にも出てこないってこと、ありませんか？
今日は「ごみの日」や「ごみを出す」を英語で何というか、エリンに教えてもらったのでまとめます！
また “trash” と “garbage” の違いについても併せて解説しますよ！
「ごみの日」「ごみを出す」の英語表現
「ゴミを出す」は英語で “put out” や “take out” を使って、 “put out the trash” や “take out the garbage” といいます。
また「ゴミの日」は “trash day” といいます。
「缶や瓶の回収日」などはアメリカにはないので正確なことは言えませんが、強いて言えば “collection day for the recyclables” で伝わると思います。
“trash” と “garbage” の違い
強いて言えば “trash” は「不用品だけど、もしかしたらほかの人にとっては役に立つかもしれないもの」も含まれるけど、”garbage” は「だれにとってもごみ、価値のないもの」と言えるかもね。
“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure” ってことわざもあるから覚えておいてね。

ただ基本は同じ。あんまり深く考えないほうがいいよ。
じゃあ “trash day” と同じ意味で “garbage day” って言ってもいいんだね？
んー、”garbage day” とは言わないね。“trash day” しか聞いたことないよ。
ちなみに 「ごみ収集車」は “garbage truck” で “trash truck” とは言わない。
「ごみ取集のおじさん」のことは “a garbage man” もしくは “a trash guy”。
さらに「ごみ箱」の場合は “trash can” も “garbage can” もどちらでも使うよ。
特別な理由はなくて、そうだからとしか言えないけどね。
“trash” と “garbage” はほとんど同じもののようです。
ある辞書みると「生ごみ」は “garbage” だって書いてあることがありますが、 “trash” だって「生ごみ」を指すことだってあります。
エリンが言ったように基本は同じだけど、強いて言えば広義の一般的な「ごみ」は “trash”、その中でも特に「誰にとってもごみ、価値のないもの(ex.生ごみ等）」は “garbage” ということもある、くらいに覚えておくと良いかもしれません。

Trash consists of unwanted things or waste material such as used paper, empty containers and bottles, and waste food.

If you throw it in the trash, you can call it garbage.

ごみ収集車の人：a garbage man / a trash guy ( a trash man / a garbage guy)
ごみ箱：a trash can / a garbage can (どちらでもok )
（※小さいものは trash can ということが多いイメージ）
